Today marked the return of Search and Rescue Technician Sergeant Janick Gilbert to 8 Wing Trenton from Nunavut, where he perished whilst performing a rescue operation near Igloolik.
I've never attended one of the repatriations of Canadian soldiers, despite being so near the base, but I will likely do so next week when the another soldier is coming home in the way so many never want to see.
With a six foot fence and no media allowed on tarmac, it was a challenge, to say the least. But I'm glad I went.
