Rebels Lacrosse

One last freelance for the local paper before I headed south was to cover a lacrosse game. I also covered a cadets inspection beforehand but was overall unimpressed with the lighting and didn't produce anything I was overly proud of. The lighting in the arena was horrible as well but I think it went ok.

Internship starts tomorrow. I'm excited.

Moving (again!)

Apparently all I do these days is move. This time at least its only a four hour drive, not four days. I'm heading down to Strathmore to start a 12 week internship with the Strathmore Standard and Hanna Herald (we like alliteration out here.) I'm pretty excited to do some relevant work and I get to live with my fun older brother and his family while I'm there, so that should be pretty good too. It doesn't stop me being a bit nervous though, and a little bit sad to leave my Edmonton friends behind, especially my smallest friend.

My best friend since junior high had her baby in January and this is the first chance I've really had to meet him. I don't really get along with most babies (the crying! what is so wrong with the world?!) but this one is kind of cool. Hope to see him (and his lovely mom) again before I head back to Ontario.

Pow-Wow

I find that there's a lot more aboriginal influence out here on the prairies than I felt in Ontario. Today I felt some of that at the 30th annual Ben Calf Robe traditional pow-wow.

Freelancing

Yesterday I had the chance to freelance a story/photo for my local paper. I was really set on getting a good story about the kids science fair I was at, and I kind of let my photography slide a bit. Looking back through the shots, there are so many more possibilities I missed, but I think that's something I'll learn to balance more as I do this sort of gig more often. Plus, I had the chance to interview the Premier, and I think that got me a bit flustered. Here are the best shots.

I'm not sure which photo will run with the story yet, there are a few others that were possibilities that I didn't put up here. It's a weekly paper, so I probably won't find out until the 19th.

Springtime

Here in Alberta, most trees and grasses are still brown and dead, but the sunsets are alive as ever. I'm still on the job/internship search and this leaves me with considerably too much spare time, so to kill some of it, I succumbed to the "take a picture of the sunset" urge.

I'm heading in to the big city (Edmonton) over the weekend and will hopefully get some real shooting done then. It's a bit of a waiting game right now.

I never posted my final multimedia project from last semester, so here it is now.
